Exemptions

Exemptions

Students may apply for exemptions (recognition for prior learning), which includes formal study undertaken in recognized tertiary and post-secondary institutions worldwide. Exemptions are granted on the basis of prior learning (formal or informal) where that learning is assessed as equivalent to the learning outcomes or competencies of one or more ACBT units. Exemption (also called Unit Credit) releases a student from having to undertake one or more units within a course.

Overseas institutions will be recognized to the extent to which they are considered to be equivalent to particular types of Australian institutions. Consideration may extend under certain conditions, to programs provided by recognized professional bodies.

Students must enroll and successfully complete at least 50% of all remaining ACBT units in order to be awarded with the relevant qualification.

How to apply: Talk to a student counselor at ACBT regarding exemptions.

  •   Exemptions for ACBT University Foundation, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Programs are subject to approval by ACBT Academic Board in accordance with Sri Lankan regulatory requirements
  •   All Applications for Exemptions must be submitted before Week 4 of the semester.
  •   Applications received after Week 4 will be processed but will not qualify for a fee refund if the student is already enrolled in that unit.

Recognition of Prior Learning – Advanced Standing Register

ACBT has established articulation arrangements with many universities in Australia with respect to the following courses. Note that not all pathways offer a full year of credit (advanced standing) and that universities may amend these arrangements from time-to-time such that the number of credits may be increased or decreased.

Applications for entry into the ACBT courses listed below will be given confirmation of the advanced standing arrangements at the time of offer. When accepted, the offer and acceptance are legally binding on all parties.

  •   ACBT Pre Foundation Program
  •   International University Foundation in Business
  •   International University Foundation in Computing
  •   International University Foundation of Science
  •   International University Foundation of Engineering
  •   Diploma of Business
  •   Diploma of Computer Science
  •   Advanced Diploma of Business
  •   Advanced Diploma of Computer Science
  •  Advanced Diploma of Nursing

Applicants who believe they may be eligible for advanced standing based on other formal qualifications, should apply to ACBT and lodge:

  •   Application for Exemption Form (for formal qualifications) or Recognition of Prior Learning Form (for informal studies and/or work experience)
  •   Documentary evidence to support your application. Please note that failure to submit full evidence with certified copies of documents will mean your application cannot be processed.
  •   Certified copies of academic transcripts and/or qualifications with approved English language translations (if applicable)
  •   Copies of full unit outlines describing detailed contents of learning outcomes, assessments and other course materials. Such evidence must demonstrate equivalent academic rigout (quality, time frame, depth of study and content)
  •   Any other evidence demonstrating that your experience, skills, knowledge and qualifications meet the academic rigour required under the respective Standards of the SLQF (Sri Lankan Qualifications Framework) and the NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications).
  •   Proof of minimum level of English competency matching relevant course entry guidelines.

Applications for Advanced Standing and RPL should be lodged prior to the start of the course. Please refer to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.
